Process for manufacturing a ball joint

A spherical socket (2) is formed in the plunger or shoe, being so undercut that it extends through an angle of more than 180 deg, the socket diameter at the equatorial plane (5) being greater than that of its mouth. A spherical ball-head (11) is then formed on the shoe or plunger, and pressed into the socket. This causes elastic distortion of the mouth edge (6), which then engages behind the ball-head. Expansion can be aided by liquid or gas under pressure, delivered into the socket via a drilling in the plunger or shoe.
