PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize photocatalyst powder having photocatalytic performance practically used to decompose various volatile organic compounds, residual chlorine, and endotoxins in water and exhibit an antibacterial action in water. SOLUTION: This photocatalyst powder decomposes volatile organic compounds(VOC) in water and has such a structure that platinum superfine particles having an average particle diameter of >=1 nm and <=5 nm are carried by the surface of titanium oxide powder whose crystal structure is anatase type. It is especially desirable that the amount of the carried platinum superfine particles is adjusted to >=0.01 mass % and <=3.0 mass % and that the average particle diameter of the titanium oxide powder is adjusted to >=5 nm and <=60 nm.
