PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject root canal filling material as a temporary filling material high in biocompatibility and intended for use in treating the root canal, having anti-rotting tendency through preventing the inside of the root canal from contamination due to pathogenic bacteria, exudate, or the like, as a result of staying for a specified period at an affected part when temporarily filled inside the root canal, and playing a role of promoting curing osseous cicatrice due to root apex wound. SOLUTION: This root canal filling material is obtained by including 3-20 wt.% of polyvinylpyrrolidone and/or polyvinyl methyl ether, 30-60 wt.% of calcium hydroxide and 35-60 wt.% of purified water, and optionally, based on 100 pts.wt. of the final filling material, 5-20 pts.wt. of at least one X-ray contrast medium selected from barium sulfate, zirconium oxide, bismuth subnitrate, bismuth trioxide and bismuth carbonate and/or 0.5-5 pts.wt. of either iodoform or iodine as a disinfectent preparation.
