PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel foil which is 30-50μm thick and has high flatness and high hardness. SOLUTION: This foil is a stainless steel foil which is rolled into 30-50μm thick and 310-550 mm wide with a multi roll mill. When the piece of foil which is obtained by cutting this stainless steel foil into the length of 300-500 mm in the rolling direction after removing by a prescribed width in both end parts of the rolling direction is stably placed on a surface plate, the height from the surface of the surface plate to the vicinity of the end part where both end parts of the piece of foil are removed is defined as <=1.5 mm.
