The procedure for coordination of exhaust relevant measures with a direct fuel injected internal combustion engine(10) with a NOx catalyser(18) in the exhaust train entails determining by the use of measuring, evaluating and control equipment the state of the NOx storage catalyser and depending upon that state initiating a NOx regeneration, de-sulphuring, high temperature de-sulphuring, a stoichiometric homogenous operation, or an error indication. An Independent claim is included for a system for coordination of exhaust gas relevant measures which has measuring, evaluating and control equipment to determine the state of the NOx catalyser.
