PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dissolve/fade detection method in an MPEG compression video environment capable of quickly and accurately detecting the using section of dissolve/fade in a video compression domain utilizing prediction between bidirectional frames. SOLUTION: A candidate section where it is estimated that a dissolve/fade editing effect is used is detected inside a video sequence and whether or not the dissolve/fade editing effect is used in the section is discriminated by utilizing the distribution of a space-time macro block type in the detected dissolve/fade candidate section. The length of the candidate section is compared with a specified limit value, and when the section is larger than the specified limit value, the section is judged as the dissolve/fade section. |
