PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power-line carrier communication device for automatic meter reading to be used for the transmission of a meter reading value through a power line with safety and economic efficiency. SOLUTION: The communication device connected to a reading meter or an external communication device is provided with a 1st communication control part for controlling the transmission/reception of information allowed to be transmitted/received to/from the meter, a 1st power supply part having a function for transmitting/receiving the information through the power line and a function for receiving power supply from the power line, a 2nd communication control part for controlling the transmission/reception of the information to/from the 1st power supply part, a central processing part for transmitting/receiving the information between the 1st and 2nd communication control parts and controlling the 1st and 2nd communication control parts, and a 2nd power supply part having a function for monitoring the power load of the 2nd power supply part and a function for controlling power supply to the 1st communication control part, the central processing part and the 2nd communication control part on the basis of the power load.
