PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a magnetic recording/reproducing device which is cost-wise competitive and highly convenient while having the recording interchangeability as to plural formats provided with similar basic parts and also arranged so as to execute the flying erase even for the DV format. SOLUTION: The equalizing property and the tape speed are made variable in accordance with whether a format discriminating signal is an Sf (dvcpro) or Sf (dv), and also by utilizing that the head width Fw1 of a flying erase head conformed to the DVCPRO format is twice the track width Tw2 of the DV format or larger, the erase signal current is supplied to one 1st flying erase head H (FE1) only out of the 1st and 2nd flying erase heads H (FE1), H (FE2) conformed to the DVCPRO format in the DV format recording mode, than the record of two tracks are simultaneously erased.
