PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching equipment and a method that can make a priority possible for using in data communication networks. SOLUTION: A traffic holds the designated minimum transmittable element as one case of slots or bits and the like, and a processor, which is monitoring the queues 1-4, is constituted to judge whether the traffic arrives to the queue that holds the higher priority classification that the queues from which the traffic is transmitted. In the case that the traffic arrives to the queue classified to the higher priority, the processor responses to that, and after transmitting the present minimum transmittable element, stops the present transmission for a time, transmits the traffic from the queue afterward, and then reopens the transmission which is stopped for a time.
