PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic flow measuring system capable of measuring the number of traveling vehicles and the speeds of these vehicles. SOLUTION: The system is provided with a background image storage part 10 for storing a background image, a frame buffer 11 for storing a picked-up image, an area information storage part for storing 1st and 2nd measuring areas, and a change detection part 13 for finding out a difference between the picked-up image and the background image and binarizing the difference to detect a changed area. The system is provided also with a 1st vehicle detection part for measuring the number of vehicles when a difference between vehicle detection start time and vehicle detection end time is larger than a prescribed value in the 1st measuring area, a vehicle sort discrimination part for determining the sort of each vehicle on the basis of the size of the changed area to be detected, a 2nd vehicle detection part for executing measurement similar to the 1st vehicle detection part in the 2nd measuring area, and a speed calculation part for converting the positional information of the vehicle into distance information to find out a moving distance and calculating the speed of the vehicle from the moving distance and the time difference of vehicle detection end time. |
