摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems with the conventional hermetic type muffler that a discharge port for exhalation is disposed nearer a position in a front direction from a bell end face by as much as the quarter-wave-component of its standing waves and therefore the muffler protrudes correspondingly forward from the bell end face and the length of the muffler body increases and the weight of the muffler increases as well. SOLUTION: The muffler has the muffler body 7 of a blind cylindrical shape which consists of a bottom 5 and a body-shell part 3 of a cylindrical shape and has the largest inner diameter part 15 in the bottom 5. Further, a discharge groove 25 is formed between the inner peripheral surface of the bell 105 and the outer peripheral surface of the body-shell part 3 of the muffler. The player's exhalation entering the inside of the muffler 1 is discharged to an external space through a communication space 27 of the discharge groove 25. The inner peripheral surface of the body-shell part 3 is smoothly reduced in its diameter along the shape of the inner peripheral surface of the bell 105 and the largest inner diameter part 25 at the bottom 5 of the muffler body 7 exists on the end face 127 of the bell. The end face 17 of the body-shell part 3 exists at a point recessing toward the deep side (C side) of the bell by a much as the quarter-wave-component of the representative standing waves of the brass instrument to be mounted form the end face 127 of the bell.
