PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head capable of achieving a high speed for recording while securing an overwriting characteristics, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: On a recording gap layer 10, a spacer layer 16 made of a nonmagnetic material is disposed adjacently to an insulating layer 12 (insulating layer portion 12A), an upper pole tip 14 is disposed adjacently to both of the recording gap layer 10 and the spacer layer 16, and an upper yoke 18 magnetically connected to the upper pole tip 14 is disposed. A throat height TH1 is shortened while suppressing the interference tendency of magnetic flux propagation in an upper magnetic pole 30. Thus, a high speed for recording and an overwriting characteristics based on the shortening of the throat height TH1 are both secured. |
