The invention concerns a method for production of a material based on bast fibre plants. According to the invention, moist raw material from bast fibre plants is heat treated one or more times such that the temperature varies on either side of 0 degrees Celsius, and if so desired the raw material can be treated with another processing method for loosening of the fibres, the fibres of the bast fibre plant raw material are separated mechanically from each other, the resulting bast fibre raw material is processed into a fibre pulp, and the end product is formed from the fibre pulp.
