Appts. butt welds thermoplastic pipes. It grips them using clamps, then moves them on a slide to press their ends against the heater, the force and heating power being preset. The tubes are then butted, again under preset force. Novel features include the pre-setting of the force directly on the slide (25) in accordance with that required for heating and joining. The force exerted is transferred and measured by a load cell (24) after the slide section (22), to decouple it from the other components. Also claimed is the use of the appts. to join thermoplastic tubes. |
