SELECTIVE MODIFICATION OF A SCHEDULING PROCESS

Tasks (T) such as repair jobs on a telecommunications system, that are to be performed by field engineers (E) are scheduled by running a scheduler (10) at a server (5) under a predetermined reference set of process conditions to provide schedule data corresponding to schedules of the tasks prepared from task data (4) concerning the tasks to be carried out and resource data (6) concerning characteristics of the engineers available to carry out the tasks over a given period. The resulting schedule data is supplied to the engineers so that they can carry out the scheduled tasks. What-if analyses can be carried out at a workstation controller (7) which acts as a client to the server (5). The process conditions for the scheduler (10) can be selectively modified at the workstation (7) and uploaded to the server which then runs the scheduling process with the modified set of process conditions.
