PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a premix compression self-ignition engine and its operation control method capable of performing control rapidly corresponding to abnormal combustion on the basis of fuel concentration and the like as well as improving startability. SOLUTION: A throttle valve 8 capable of regulating an opening is disposed in an exhaust passage 7 so as to control exhaust pressure, and thereby, startability is improved. A combustion condition is detected by a combustion detecting means, the throttle valve is operated, and control is performed rapidly corresponding to abnormal combustion of a knock condition on the basis of fuel concentration and the like. As the combustion detecting means, a pressure sensor 11 for measuring combustion pressure in a cylinder, an ion prove for detecting ion current of flame on burning, an O2 sensor disposed in the exhaust passage, or the like may be used.
