engineering investigations. SUBSTANCE: soil sampler used for selecting monoliths of clay soils including slump soil by indentation or driving has body and shoe. Body has shank for coupling with submerging mechanism, as well as side unloading semi- cylindrical window and longitudinal slot joined together and arranged along longitudinal axis of mentioned mechanism. Shoe has contracted inlet and outer conical multi-step drilling with cylindrical transitions between steps. Conical drilling steps may of any quantity but no less than two. First cylindrical transition is 20 mm long and diameter of outer surface may be greater than that of contracted inlet by not more than 4 mm. Total length of conical drilling L=2.45b1,45max, but not less than 27 mm in case bmax is less than 6,5 mm, where bmax is maximal thickness of shoe wall. Height of contracted inlet is not greater than 15 mm and its diameter is less than inner diameter of body by 0.5-3,0%. Inner surface of shoe is multi-step structure where step diameters in first cylindrical transition of conical drilling are greater than diameter of contracted inlet, and diameter of each next cylindrical transition is greater than that of preceding one by not less than 0.5 mm. First step of conical drilling starts from diameter of contracted inlet and has lip angle of maximum 15 deg. Last step of conical drilling terminates at diameter exceeding that of outer surface of body by up to 2%. Second and next steps have cone angle not greater than 30 deg.
