Pharmaceutical preparation or foodstuff for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, or 'pouchitis' in ulcerative colitis patients having undergone colectomy and insertion of an ileo-anal bag, contains at least one 4-aminoacyloxyalkyl-2-oxetanone of formula (I), together with conventional auxiliaries. X = undecyl or (2Z, 5Z)-undecadienyl; Y = isobutyl; and Y<1> = formyl; or Y = carbamoylmethyl and Y<1> = acetyl.
