PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an artificial zeolite having excellent quality at a low cost allowing stable supply to the market. SOLUTION: This method consists in heating pearlite with an alkali metal hydroxide in the presence of water. In another embodiment, this method consists in heating pearlite in an alkaline aqueous solution.
