摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high heat efficiency by reducing the discharge concentration of nitrogen oxides in a wide engine speed and load range. SOLUTION: A compression ignition-type or spark ignition-type internal combustion engine supplies uniform stoichimetic mixture formed of air and fuel to a cylinder without heating it and makes the stoichiometic mixture having a compression rate at which selfignition is possible and knocking is generated. The fuel amount smaller than the stoichiometic mixture in the cylinder is supplied, either the air amount in the cylinder or the remaining gas amount is changed, and self-ignition of mixture is generated in the cylinder in a wide range of the air-fuel ratio according to the engine speed and the amount of fuel to be supplied, and therefore, the air supply amount and the remaining gas amount are adjusted to self-ignite and burn lean mixture.
