PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine allowing clear distinguishing of whether the symbol displayed on the screen of a display device indicates a pattern or needle handling control. SOLUTION: A selective screen for selecting the pattern is displayed on the display device (S103), and the pattern or needle handling control is selected by a pattern selecting key group or a needle handling control selecting key group (S105: YES). If the needle handling control is selected by the needle handling control selecting key group (S107: YES), a symbol indicating the needle handling control is drawn in blue in a combination area (S109). If the pattern is selected by the pattern selecting key group (S107: NO), a symbol indicating the pattern is drawn in black in the combination area (S115).
