PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a predetermined gripping force with substantially low pressure force, to make a whole of a fixing device smaller by making a pressing means smaller, to prevent of offsetting with ease an to hold a fixing roll safely over a long period of time in a roll/belt type fixing device. SOLUTION: In the device where an endless belt is brought into contact with the fixing roll in a nipping area, a recording sheet carrying unfixed toner is passed between the fixing roll and the endless belt while it is pulled by the gripping force between a press roll and the fixing roll where the endless belt is hung and the unfixed toner is fixed onto the recording sheet in the nipping area, a gripper 22 made from resin impregnated fiber material is provided along at least one end part of a width of the endless belt 2.
