摘要 The design of the trunnions (22) on the tripod element (20) is elliptical in form when viewed in direction of their axes. The major axis of this ellipse is in the direction of rotation, whilst the minor axis is in line with the axis of transmission. Thus with the angular tilting of the tripod element during rotation, the rollers (34) in their guide paths (14) do not tilt. The tripod element consists of three trunnions projecting radially. Each trunnion carries a roller, which slides longitudinally in a guide path (14) provided in the exterior joint element (10). The rollers cannot tilt in their guide paths. Support rings (32) for the rollers are fitted on the trunnions (22) and between them and the trunnions are a series of needle rollers (36) to allow the necessary rotation. The shape of each trunnion, looking endwise, is in the form of an ellipse with its major axis in the direction of rotation of the joint. The internal surfaces of the support rings are radiused to accommodate the angular tilting of the trunnions.
