PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust from staying on an original platen where an original is carried by an automatic original feeding device and to prevent the occurrence of a picture defects such as a black line and a void. SOLUTION: A picture reader is provided with the automatic original feeding device transporting the original, the original platen 20 which is arranged in a state where it is confronted with the original carried by the automatic original feeding device and has an inclination face 20A where the up stream side of an original carrying direction F is arranged in a high order and optical scanning systems (5, 6A and 6B) reading the picture of the original carried on the original stand 20.
