Each crate is turned upside down so that its support surface is upwards, its two main side walls are opened out and locked and the crate is introduced into the washing station. In order to lock them the side walls are first guided through the underneath and held perpendicularly to the crate bottom and then placed between the jaws (10A,10B) of a clamp (10). The first guide (300) comprises a part with a notch (330) and an inclined plane (310) which, when in contact with the edges of the side wall, leads it progressively into a vertical plane.
