Automobile exhaust system comprises exhaust manifold (12), exhaust fall pipe (14) and swiveling flange (36) which maintains fall pipe inlet orifice (16) opposite manifold outlet orifice (18). Flange is mounted on fall pipe using two fixing rods (44) whose lower axial threaded ends (46) each carry clamping nut (48) with compression washer (50) between nut and flange. Before clamping, profile of washer is convex and after clamping is flat.
