The filter assembly has a frame (12) of a supple plastic material or a thermoplastic elastomer, at least partly surrounding a pleated filter element (11) and attached to it by over-molding. The filter element has a non-woven card layer with long fibres, a mesh layer (25) and a gas-absorbent layer with activated carbon between them. The frame is made with two thin side walls (13, 14) with thicker portions on their inner faces covering the edges of the filter element.
