A door catch system has the handle set back from the edge of the door with its pivot offset from that of the door catch mechanism. The handle and door catch are linked by a mechanical transmission system such as a chain/belt drive, a gear train, a linkage etc. The transmission can incorporate a mechanical advantage to tailor the action of the door mechanism to the wishes of the operator.
