To fit a window pane (1) to the window winding system (3), to be mounted in the bodywork (20) of a vehicle door (2), before assembly the door (2) and the pane (1) are rotated by 180 degrees round an axis through the door (2) surface, and the pane (1) is positioned under the door bodywork (20) on its head. The door bodywork (20) and the pane (1) are aligned with the mounting points, and the gap is reduced between the mountings and the mounting points, for assembly with the units on their heads.
