In a process for making an elastically stretchable composite sheet an elastically stretchable web 3 and inelastically stretchable web constituting together a stock web 10 are bonded together at a plurality of bonding spots 4. This stock web 10 is stretched in Y-direction and succeedingly contracted to obtain a composite sheet. The bonding spots 4 are arranged so that each pair of the bonding spots 4 lying adjacent to each other in Y-direction at least partially overlap each other as one of these adjacent bonding spots 4 is translated in Y-direction.
