PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce level information on irregularities of an observed object by using the characteristics of field curvature reversely and focusing the image in accordance with the irregularities or the like of the observed object. SOLUTION: An electronic scope 10 has at the distal end a group of objective lenses having movable lenses or a second lens L2 and a third lens L3, and movements of the movable lenses vary the power and the characteristics of field curvature. A microcomputer 15 reads in the moving positions of the second and third lenses L2 and L3 from encoders 16A and 16B, computes the level difference between the image center and periphery on the basis of the present generated field curvature and the enlargement ratio, and displays the level difference information on a monitor 28. The level difference information is, for example, a sectional form or contour lines with level values, and is displayed over the irregularity image of the observed object.
