PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transport, move, branch, assort and sort transporting articles, such as postal articles, containing CDs, IC cards, etc. SOLUTION: A second transporting means 5 receives the transporting articles 1, such as the delivery articles, transported in a transverse (horizontal) direction by a first transporting means 2 on receiving bases 52 as they are and transports and moves the transporting in the vertical (perpendicular) direction. The transporting articles 1 received by the second transporting means 5 are transported and branched by the respective transporting means 55 in the transporting and movement in the vertical direction and are assorted and housed into storing boxes (F11 to F44) arranged in multiplicity like gratings. The second transporting means 5 receives the transporting articles 1 transported in the horizontal direction in the postures as they are and transported and moves the transporting articles 1 in the perpendicular direction without exerting deformation load thereto and therefore the failure of the transporting articles 1, such as the delivery articles, is averted and the transporting items are efficiently assorted and sorted.
