PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the surface of a plate which can directly form an image without removing the plate from a rotation state and to extend the service life of the plate. SOLUTION: In a method for handling plates 1, 21 needless to be treated which are fitted to the plate cylinder 15 of a printing unit 14, an image forming unit 22 acts on the coats 2, 21.1 of the plate 21, and printing surface 6 and non-printing surfaces 10, 11 are formed on the plate 21. The image forming unit 22, after the image forming process of the coats 2, 21.1, is operated with output controlled during a return action to return to a self-starting position.
