PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for giving tensioning and steering function to a web without introducing the defect of an image. SOLUTION: The web 50 is partly wound around a rotatable guide roller 32. A first end 36 of the guide roller 32 is carried on an inclination possible supporting member 38 and the opposite end 39 is mounted on a pivot bearing 40. A non-contact sensor 41 is arranged to detect the lateral misalignment of the web 50. A controller 44 responsive to the non-contact sensor 41 controls the inclination of the supporting member 38 and modifies the lateral misalignment of the web 50. Thrusters 45, 47 operate predetermined thrusting force on either end of the guide roller 32, independently of the position of the inclination possible supporting member 38, and push the guide roller 32 to the web to generate desired tension. |
