PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a horizontal compression device by which compressibility can be selected by 1/2n (n is an integer of n>=0) step at the time of thinning and compressing input video signals after interpolation filter processing without distorting video images for any compression in a horizontal direction. SOLUTION: This video signal compression device for compressing the input video signals by the compressibility changed for each step of 1/2n (n is the integer satisfying n>=0) is provided with an interpolation filter processing part 2 for performing a filter processing among plural pixels to the input video signals corresponding to a centroid position among the plural pixels calculated from the compressibility, a memory 3 for writing the output of the interpolation filter processing part 2 and a compression control part 4 for controlling an interpolation coefficient used for the filter processing of the interpolation filter processing part based on the compressibility and controlling the timing of writing the output from the interpolation filter processing part to the memory based on the compressibility.
