A method relating to the use of radiolabelled annexin to image regions of apoptosis (cell death) in a mammal using gamma ray imaging in vivo is described. The method comprises: 1. administering to the subject, an annexin labelled biocompatible radionuclide selected from I123, I131, Fl18 and preferablyTc99, 2. after a period of time in which the labelled annexin can achieve localisation in the subject, positioning the subject within the detection field of a radiation detector device, and 3. measuring radiation emission from the radionuclide localised in the subject, with a radiation detector device, to construct an image of radiation emission, wherein the image is a representation of cell death in the region of the subject.
