PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a photographing or reproducing operation even in the case that normal data can not be obtained from a memory in the case of mounting a battery pack incorporating a storage memory. SOLUTION: This electronic camera is provided with a data request means for requesting the read of prescribed data from the memories 36 and 40 incorporated in batteries 33 and 37, an error discrimination means for discriminating whether or not the data read from the memory are the normal data, a flash memory 42 for storing the basic characteristics of the battery pack and a processing means for performing a prescribed processing by using the basic characteristics stored in the flash memory 42 when the discrimination means discriminates that the normal data cannot be obtained from the memory.
