PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coordinate input tool capable of turning a switch on with small amount of pressure and lengthening a life of the switch. SOLUTION: When transcript is started, the pressure is applied to a pen point 63 and an ink cartridge 62 slides in the W direction indicated by an arrow. Then, a transom window 61b which is closed by a light shielding part 66b is opened and light L from the outside is detected by a phototransistor 67. When the phototransistor 67 turns power to a circuit substrate 70 on by detection of the light L from the outside, an alternate magnetic field is generated from a pen 60 and a coordinate position of the pen 60 is read. Thus, an energizing switch of the circuit substrate 70 is turned on with the small amount of pressure and the life of the switch is lengthened since no deterioration of a contact part is generated in comparison with the case of using mechanical contact switch.
