The invention relates to a continuous process for preparing isopropyl benzene by benzene alkylation with propene in the presence of phosphoric acid as a catalyst dilluted with granules of inert catalyst carrier, consisting in arranging the catalyst in five layers, the first two layers comprising catalyst dilluted with inert catalyst carrier, the other three layers comprising only phosphoric acid catalyst.
