PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a phone with a facsimile function which is smaller and to save space. SOLUTION: The phone with a facsimile function is provided with an interface section 9 connected to a local area network LAN 11, a means 2a that reads an original on a scanner 12 connected to the LAN 11 as image data, a coding/decoding section 10 that encodes the image data into facsimile codes and decodes the facsimile code into the original image data, a modem section 5 that modulates the facsimile code into a facsimile signal that can be sent to a telephone line, and demodulates the facsimile signal into the facsimile code, a means 2c, 2d that send/receive the facsimile signal to/from the telephone line 8 via an NCU, and a means 2b that converts the image data into a data format which is printable by a printer 13 connected to the LAN 11 and allows the printer 13 to print out the image data. Thus, a read section and a recording section of a facsimile section can be omitted.
