The procedure for sending short messages (SMS) to mobile networks uses a computer with SS7 connections capable of interrogating all the Home Location Registers (HLRs) of the country where portability of numbers is required. The computer comprises a cache memory for all the mobile subscribers of the country where portability is realised, in order to know which HLR to interrogate, without searching again, once it has been found once. The cache memory is initially empty, but information is constructed progressively by the HLR searches when a subscriber is not already in the cache memory, or he has changed network.
