PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program retrieval device and method and a recording medium having a program retrieval program recorded thereon for performing reliable retrieval without errors by appropriately setting the relation between the time length of video images registered beforehand and retrieval time for each channel. SOLUTION: The retrieval of extracting a desired program is performed by switching the channel at a time interval equal to or smaller than the time having the time length of a program (retrieval key) to be a key registered by a user beforehand divided by the number of the channels of a retrieval object and judging whether a program (program fragment) of the time interval inputted at every switchover is present in the retrieval key.
