The transfer unit for use in mining or tunnelling has a drag chain conveyor fitted underneath a continuous cutter (8). The end (15) of a conveyor belt is attached to a platform (25) mounted on a support jack and can be swivelled with respect to the end (28) of the chain conveyor trough nearest the cutter.
