A cinematograph projector provided with means for recording sound on the film and means for stopping and reversing the film, is provided with a counter responsive to time or film length so that the film can be reversed a predetermined amount from a given point and then run forward to this point, at which time the counter has returned to zero and energizes the sound recording means so that recording starts at the required point with the film running at normal speed. The counter may comprise a cam (28, Figs. 2-10, not shown), driven by a worm drive from the film driving means and co-operating with a switch-bar (16) which is depressed initially and allowed to return only when the cam has returned to its initial position. An auxiliary blocking cam (27) operated by a mode selection switch (10) prevents the recording circuit being completed during the reverse-forward cycle, and prevents the projector being started other than in the forward mode at the end of a reverse step. The return of the cam (28) to its initial position may cause the closing of switches (37-40, Fig. 11, not shown), thereby energizing an erase head (4), a record head (5), and an auxiliary magnetic playback apparatus (43) feeding the record head. Alternatively cam means may be provided whereby the erase head is energized before the record head by a time corresponding to the physical displacement between them; also if the playback apparatus has a delayed operation, it may be switched on correspondingly early.</p> |
