PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform protective operation of the compressor in a heat pump with low power. SOLUTION: The heat pump comprises compressors 2, 3 driven through an engine 1 provided with a starter 2. The compressors 2, 3 operate a circulation circuit 20 for air conditioning. A control section 24 performs preliminary operation control of compressor where the compressors 2, 3 are rotated individually at a low speed for a specified time under a state before starting operation of the engine 1 where the starter 21 is operated but fuel is not supplied to the engine 1. Residual refrigerant, and the like, in the compressors 2, 3 can be discharged to the circulation circuit 20 side before starting operation by performing preliminary operation control of compressor.
