PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure safety by a method wherein a delay-action ammunition during the occurrence of a delay start phenomenon is positioned in a chain plug by controlling a motor for an external drive part. SOLUTION: A safety mechanism for an external drive type machine gun is formed such that a motor (12) is controlled by a first signal (31a) to indicate a momentary time in a closing period in which a chain plug (6) is closed and a second signal (35a) and/or a third signal (40a) to show that a bullet is fired, and a delay-action ammunition is positioned in a chain plug.
