PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce pebble-like porous ceramics each of which is concurrently provided with ornamental appearance and functionality due to the porousness and has excellent strength, superior wear resistance and high durability, and also to provide a production process of the pebble-like porous ceramics. SOLUTION: The production process of this pebble-like porous ceramics comprises: a crushing stage for crushing porous natural stone into coarse stone pieces having 5-100 mm piece size; an interpiece abrasion polishing stage for polishing the surfaces of the crushed porous natural stone pieces by interpiece abrasion to form pebble-like stone pieces; and a firing stage for firing the crushed porous natural stone pieces or the polished pebble-like stone pieces at 600-1,100 deg.C to form such stone pieces into ceramics, wherein, when each of the crushed porous natural stone pieces has such properties that, in the interpiece abrasion polishing stage, the stone piece is hardly disintegrated with water and any of peeling/damage is hardly caused in the stone piece, the interpiece abrasion polishing stage is performed prior to the firing stage, and when each of the crushed porous natural stone pieces has such properties that, in the interpiece abrasion polishing stage, the disntegration of the stone piece with water is liable to occur and/or peeling/damage are liable to occur in the stone pieces, the firing stage is performed prior to the interpiece abrasion polishing stage.
