PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce glycine from glycinonitrile in the absence of any acids, alkalis or buffers for adjusting the pH. SOLUTION: The reaction is carried out by acting Acinetobacter sp. or Rhodococcus maris on a glycinonitrile aqueous solution and separating ammonia formed in the reaction solution by means of distilling it off under a reduced pressure or in the presence of an inactive gas.
