PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of efficiently washing a spiral membrane module using a small amount of a washing liquid to effectively restore membrane capacity. SOLUTION: The spiral membrane module 30 is vertically set in an upright cylindrical container 20 and pressed from above by a screw rod 42 and a press member 44. A washing liquid is introduced into a container 20 from a tank 10 so as to immerse about 1/4 of the module 30 and subsequently bubbled. Thereafter, water is allowed to flow in the container to wash away peeled matter before bubbling.
