PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape cassette which generates no erroneous detection of a leader tape even when a half case has translucency. SOLUTION: In the magnetic tape cassette which houses a magnetic tape so as to be able to travel in the half case having the translucency, a shading wall 32 is provided in front of a light incident part 18a and a light emitting part 18b of a prism 18 for detecting a tape provided in the upper half case 4.
